Black men have the highest sperm volume

 

Several studies indicate racial differences in testicle size and volume. Within the academic world there is a consensus that African populations have a larger testicle than populations of European origin.

The racial difference in testicular volume starts from the earliest stages of life, where black African babies are born with a testicular volume 4 times that of white European babies. This racial difference between testicle sizes continues into puberty and adulthood, reaching an average difference of 30% to 40%.

The average testicular volume of the adult white European male is around 14 to 15 ml (Lenz S. et al, 1993).

The average testicular volume of the adult African black male is around 19.9 ml to 22 ml (K.H.Tijani et al, 2014).

Comparing the studies, it is evident that, on average, an adult black male has 44.5% larger testicles than a white European male of the same age.

Testicle size and functionality

In the scientific community, there are a lot of published studies that relate testicle size to sperm, fertility and testosterone parameters. Normally, testes below 14 ml are associated with infertility conditions (L. BUJAN, R et al, 1989).

A study published in 1987 confirmed that size has a direct influence on testicular function. Among the main altered functions are testosterone production, sperm count, sperm volume and ejaculate volume. The evidence is that the larger the testis, the greater the production of testosterone, volume and quality of sperm (H Takihara et al, 1987).

In testes with an average volume of 15 ml, the sperm count ranges from 37 to 83 million sperm per ml of sperm.

In testicles larger than 19 ml, the sperm count varies around 135 million sperm per ml of sperm, i.e., 62.65% more sperm production than 15 ml testes (Robins et al, 1997).

The result is consistent with a study done in South Africa, in which the sperm count was 178.6 million sperm per ml of sperm (Robins et al, 1997).

The same study indicated that testes above 19 ml produce a significantly greater amount of ejaculate volume (Robins et al, 1997).

According to studies, the volume of sperm considered normal in Europe and the US is between 2 to 3.5 ml. An ejaculation above these limits can be considered a situation of hyperspermia, where the man has a large volume of sperm.

Hyperspermia is a condition that can be associated with a number of non-disease factors, such as testicle size, diet, or sex desire.

Sexual desire is directly related to testosterone levels (G. Corona et al, 2016), and studies show that black men have 20% more testosterone than white men (Ross, R. et al 1986).

The accumulation of factors related to hyperspermia, can lead to sperm volumes of 20 to 30 ml without prejudice to fertility, as the result of the study indicated that only 13% of men with sperm volume between 10 to 20 ml have a reduction in sperm count (S. Cooke et al 1995).

Penis size

A study done in Italy, sought to investigate the factors that can influence infertility, and found that in addition to the testicle, penis size is also related to fertility (C. Foresta et al, 2018).

Although the penis has no role in sperm production, the size of the penis is an indicator of testosterone levels in the developmental stage of the reproductive organ. Penis below 12 cm has been associated with infertility parameters such as low sperm count and lower ejaculate volume (Austen D. Slade et al, 2021).

This reinforces the hypothesis of greater fertility and ejaculation volume of black men, since the average black African penis is between 17.5 cm while the average European penis is 13.4 cm.

The characteristics of black men that benefit fertility and good testicle function explain why African men have the highest fertility rate in the world (B. Schoumaker, 2017).
